Creative icebreakers for a company holiday

Our annual office weekend retreat is coming up in a couple of weeks, and as the designated coordinator, I am terrified that the whole event is going to turn into a miserable extension of our weekly boardroom meetings. Last year, despite the free drinks and beautiful venue, everyone just sat around discussing quarterly targets, project deadlines, and office politics because nobody knew how to transition into a relaxed holiday mindset.

I used to manage events for a large marketing firm and we ran into that identical corporate stiffness every single time we tried to get different departments to socialize outside the office walls. The breakthrough came when we realized that standard corporate icebreakers are far too sterile, and what you actually need are fast, goofy, high-energy challenges that level the playing field and make management and interns look equally ridiculous. For all my group events now, I strictly pull inspiration from the crowd-pleasing activities found at https://teachers.gov.bd/blog/details/841973 since it outlines fantastic cooperative games and lively contests that strip away all professional hierarchy instantly.
